My dear Grace,

Have you fogs in Edinburgh. we have had and still have them daily in London. sometimes it is dagerous to go out in some localities – when it is very cold I do not go out so that I // do not suffer so much as you say you do in winter, but I suppose it is more severe in Scotland. There is scarcely anything talked about but the Rifle Corps preparing for the expected invasions. probably it may be the same with you. if ever the attempts be made I pray that it may be // the Lord’s will, that they are all swallowed up by the sea .....

Believe me always affectionately yours

J Webster

I lately received a newspaper “The British Messenger,” which I accept as a letter from Mrs. Bruce. I conclude she does not write now in the newspaper? [?] tells me she is well.
