To Anthony Davis Esq

My dear Sir

Mr. Matheson of Edinburgh is in London, and Mr. Grant saw him last night to whom Mr. M: communicated the following, which I send you now at once:

“Mr. Grinton of the firm of Grinton and Veitch of Edinburgh (a mutual friend of Miss Grace Webster and Mr. Matheson) has called upon Miss W. in order to induce her to accede to Mr. Davis’ wishes respecting her claims upon Langley Compensation Money”. Miss W. after much persuasion has consented to apply for and abide by the advice of her London solicitors in the matter and she promised Mr. Glinton that she should write to these gentlemen without delay upon the subject. // Mr. Matheson supposes that Miss Webster will have instructed her solicitors in London to communicate to Mr. Davis’ solicitors Miss W’s determination. Mr. Matheson recommends inquiries to be made in a few days of Mr. Davis Solicitors (Messrs Bartrum) whether he has as yet had any communication from Miss W’s Solicitors.”

Mr. Matheson is returning to Edinbro’ in a few days and has promised to make enquiries relative to Miss W’s decision and this Mr Grinton to recommend Miss W. to add up at once a letter to you with that decision.

Are Messrs. Spottiswood & Robertson Miss Webster’s Solicitors? Shall I call on them and enquire // if they are going to communicate with Messrs. Bartrum? on this my father to under Messrs. S & R. any enquiries they might wish before giving Miss W. their opinions?

I shall be glad to have a line from you, tho’ this step in the ,atter may not be new to you.

Believe me
to remain
Yours sincerely

John Robert Edwards
